The Smart Agriculture: Engaging Faculty to Vision and Modernize Agro-Food Systems With Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research Working Group is targeting the priority area of Arkansas Science and Technology Plan (2) Advanced Agriculture and Resilient Food production.This group is expected to contribute to future strategies to establish interdisciplinary collaboration to develop advanced engineering solutions for smart agro-food production and processing, and to train STEM workforce and help spur future investment in R&D infrastructure and facilities.

Smart Agricultural & Food Engineering (SAFE) lab’s primary research focus is to conduct foundational and applied research to advance robotics, embodied artificial intelligence, and machine vision techniques for modern agrifood manufacturing to protect the quality, safety, and welfare of crops, animals, food, and workers. SAFE lab also has broad interests in applying these engineering solutions to areas related to human daily lives, including environments and healthcare. The SAFE lab is located in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Digital Agriculture Systems Technology (DAST) research lab is focused on integrating computer assisted and data driven analysis and control systems with current agricultural production systems and technology. Research includes integration of various sensor and controls systems for creating new generation of automated agricultural technology for site specific solutions in variety of crop production, technology management, data harvesting, statistical learning, and decision support systems. The DAST lab is located in Abernathy Agriscience and Technology Education Center (ASTC) located in Milo J. Shult Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Fayetteville, AR.
