How Do I Apply

To apply you will need to upload the following documents:

• Resume
• Statement of Purpose
• Test Scores
• Transcripts (You may apply with unofficial transcripts, official transcripts will be required before enrollment will be granted.)
• Three Letters of Recommendation
Note: You will be able to provide the email addresses for your recommenders in the application portal. The portal will automatically notify the recommender you need a letter. If the letter is delayed, you may send a reminder to the recommender through the application portal.

To begin the online process, you will connect with the Graduate School and International Education.

Once you have completed the online application process, you will receive an email from gradapp@uark.edu. (Check your junk or spam folder if the email is not received.) This email will provide a PIN number for you to establish an application portal.

You will be able to upload your documents and provide your recommender emails in the portal.

Continue to monitor your portal to check for updates and requests for additional information. This is key to prevent any delays in the progress of your application.

When the Graduate School and International Education has completed their review of your application, they will notify you they are moving it to department review.

• Review in the department is done by a committee of faculty members.
• It is not necessary to email the faculty for admission.
• Applications accepted by the committee will be made available for review by all faculty members.

The preferred method to send an official transcript is to have your university submit electronically at gradapp@uark.edu

Graduate applicants who are non-native speakers of English must meet the Graduate School’s English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission. For most applicants, this will require submitting scores from an English proficiency test that is recognized by the University of Arkansas. Please see the Tests and Minimum Scores for ADMISSION section of this international admissions website for full details regarding proficiency tests and for which countries the Graduate School recognizes English as the native language.

Graduate applicants who wish to be considered for Graduate Teaching Assistantships must additionally demonstrate both spoken and written English competency according to approved methods outlined in the Tests and Minimum Scores for TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS section of this international admissions website. Students who seek to hold a Graduate Teaching Assistantship must meet these requirements regardless of if they receive an exemption to the English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission.

Students without a master’s degree may be admitted to the PhD program in Industrial Engineering. Those students must complete an additional 30 hours of coursework comparable to the requirements of a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering.

We have a limited number of research assistantship (RA) and teaching assistantship (TA) positions.
The TA positions are handled centrally by the department and the RA positions typically depend on individual faculty members’ ongoing research program and research funding.

There is no separate application for the RA and TA positions. All currently unfunded and newly accepted students are considered for these positions.

A committee of faculty evaluate applications for funding considering many factors including GPA, GRE scores, English proficiency, research and teaching experience and interest, etc.

Funding decisions will be made by April 1 for fall, and November 15 for spring.

Because funding offers are made on a rolling basis, it is important to apply as soon as possible.
Acceptance into the program does not guarantee an Assistantship will be awarded.

The doctoral fellowship process requires the department to nominate a candidate. These candidates are selected from the accepted applicants. To ensure full consideration for fellowships, applications must be complete and to the Department of Industrial Engineering before February 1 for fall, and October 1 for spring.
