Biomedical Engineering REU

 

Students will be partnered with Biomedical Engineering faculty to perform research in diverse areas of biomedical optics, imaging, genome engineering, and metabolism, including the following areas:

Live cell metabolic imaging | Endoscopic imaging and spectroscopy | Cell and tissue engineering | Genome engineering

Additional activities include social events with students on campus from other REU programs, a lecture series on responsible conduct in research and ethics, grant writing, manuscript writing, and presentation skills.

Eligibility

The REU site will recruit 10 students per summer focusing on the many undergraduate degree granting colleges in the region that lack a biomedical engineering program with a research emphasis. Participants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents.

Stipend

  • Students will receive a stipend of $6000 during the 10 week program
  • Support will be provided for students to attend the annual Biomedical Engineering Society national conference to present their results
  • Room and board are provided for the 10 week program
  • Travel support to and from the University of Arkansas is provided
